Extra large bin bags that will compost and become part of the natural cycle. The compostable bin bags from Suztain are made from a patented bioplastic material based on a.o. corn starch. The bags are certified free from GMO and will compost quickly as opposed to normal PLA.
Suztain's bin bags are made from a patented corn starch derived biodegradable material which is slightly elastic. This means that the bags are less likely to tear due to sharp edges like dried bread crust or chicken bones.
The Suztain bags are certified according to the OK Compost Home (home compost) standard which is the highest environmental certification in Europe.
The certification means that the product is compliant with the EU standard regarding the accepted composition of compost. In other words, it is compostable and can enter the natural cycle without harming the environment with chemicals and other components that do not belong in fields, gardens and other places we may use compost. This is why this particular EU standard (EN 13432) also referred to as the 'harshest of environmental standards'.
Products bearing the OK Compost badge are compliant with the requirements in the compost certification. The biodegradability test is carried out in a lab conditions where it is possible to control environmental factors like humidity, enzymes, bacteria, etc. The tests for the OK Compost certification are done at a temperature of 65C which means that products which are OK Compost certified are suitable for industrial composting.
The OK Compost HOME certified products are also meet the requirements of the EN 13432 standard. The only difference from the 'main' certification OK Compost, is that the degradability test is carried out at a temperature of 25C which means that the test conditions are very similar to those in the natural environment - or a well maintained home compost.
Waste disposal: As regulations regarding bioplastic vary, please ask your local council. . Some councils will accept compostable bags for organic / green waste, whereas some councils require disposal of biobags as combustable residual waste.
