While The Viking history goes back much further, The Hornware Factory has a 200-year history in making horn products in Denmark including these authentic, 100% natural Drinking Horns. Their history began with house labor in poor conditions and continues (albeit under much better conditions) today with great respect for raw natural materials by artisan craftsmen.
Drinking Horns are once again a popular and unique way in which to drink from for an authentic experience – where one can truly feel like drinking with The Vikings! Use them for faires, stage props, costumes, parties or just for the sheer fun of it.
Natural and attractive, we find that we simply love having them around and often use them to hold edible treats and greenery depending on the occasion or season. The manageable size of these Drinking Horns make them a perfect addition to add natural texture, visual interest and a unique ambiance to a table or setting.
The outside of the Drinking Horn is partly processed to a high gloss finish and the inside is polished 5cm in the open end which make it comfortable to drink from. The inside of the horn is unprocessed and absolutely no chemicals or varnishes are used anywhere on or in the Drinking Horn. The horn remains 100% natural.
The horns themselves are a surplus product from cattle production in Africa that would otherwise go to waste. Before coming to Denmark, the horn is rinsed and washed thoroughly. But, before drinking from this Drinking Horn for the first time, The Hornware Factory recommends that you clean the drinking horn with a bottle cleaner and mild soapy water. You’ll want to also ensure you allow this natural product to thoroughly dry upside down every time between use – as moisture remaining in the unprocessed interior could begin to rot and could result in a smell one would not soon forget.
Care for drinking horns
The horns have been boiled out and cleaned with boiling water when we receive them from Africa.
We rinse out the horns twice and recommend that you do the same. The Hornware Factory cannot accept responsibility for any residue left in the horns.
